About the Artist
ARTIST'S STATEMENT I like to challenge myself by painting different subjects, whether it’s a portrait, still life, or landscape. But no matter the subject or medium, it’s no question that my work follows a consistent theme: color and simplicity. My camera is my favorite tool. I primarily paint from the photos I take, but I also take inspiration from the things I see every day, and use my sketchbook to capture those moments. It could be a combination of colors and shadows I see reflected on a bowl of fruit, or the unique way I compose a design to make my simple subjects tell a story. I love Watercolors because of the surprises and lack of control it gives me, and I love Oils for the exact opposite reasons. The vast differences in both these mediums helps to keep painting interesting for me. I don’t confine myself to small details, and prefer to let loose and allow my work to have a realistic, yet painterly feel. As much as I feel that being an artist is an individual activity, taking part in art shows and exhibits gives me a chance to meet my collectors face-to-face, which I think is very important. Art needs to be shared in order for it to be appreciated! Favorite Quote: “Now and then when I get an idea for a picture, I think, how ordinary. Why paint that old rock? Why not go for a walk instead? But then I realize that to someone else it may not seem so ordinary.” BIOGRAPHY Lynn Cyr, a native of New Brunswick, Canada, started her career in Graphic Arts after moving to Massachusetts in 1996. Being an artist since childhood, she always knew she’d be pursuing the arts in some shape or form in her future. Despite her successful career as a Graphic Designer, Lynn had a strong desire to pursue her creativity through other mediums. Starting with a New Year's resolution and joining her local art associations, she has rediscovered her passion for creating art. Mostly a self-taught artist, she relies on books, videos, workshops, and classes as learning tools, along with studying the works of other artists. As an award-winning artist, Lynn has sold many paintings throughout the United States and Canada, and around the world. Her working studio and gallery is situated on a peaceful lake in Quebec, on the border of New Brunswick and Maine. In addition to selling her work online, she also participates in art shows on a regular basis, because she loves the human interaction between her and her collectors. |
